Quick Start

TkMedit is started by one of two methods: using the tkmedit-sess script, or invoking it from the command line with the tkmedit command. Depending on which method you use, you may see different types of data loaded, but all methods require an anatomical data set before tkmedit can be run. Additional types of data can be loaded from the File menu or from the command line (see TkMeditCommandLineOptions).

The simplest way to start tkmedit from the command line is to use the following format:

tkmedit SUBJECT_NAME VOLUME

Where SUBJECT_NAME is the name of a subject in your subjects directory, defined by the envrionment variable SUBJECTS_DIR, and VOLUME is the name of a volume in that subject directory, such as T1.

To explore your data, you can move the mouse over the picture of the volume (the Display Window) and see information about the area under the mouse in the window on the bottom (the Tools Window). The cursor, drawn as a red crosshair represents the center of your viewing position. These coordinates are in the bottom left of the Display Window.

You can change the view with the orientation buttons (Icons/TkMedit/icon_orientation_coronal.gif coronal, Icons/TkMedit/icon_orientation_horizontal.gif horizontal, or Icons/TkMedit/icon_orientation_sagittal.gif sagittal) and the slice number field in the Navigation Toolbar. To change the slice, use the buttons next to the slice field in the toolbar, or use the arrow keys.

You can switch to a multi-orientation view by clicking the Icons/TkMedit/icon_view_multiple.gif button. Clicking in any view with the left mouse button will recenter all views around the point you click.

Explore the View and View->Configure menus to see what visual display options you can set.

To save pictures of your data, go to the Tools menu and select the Save TIFF item near the bottom. This will save an exact copy of the Display Window.

See TkMeditInterface for more information.
