1. Getting Started
Getting started consists of 4 steps: accessing FreeSurferWiki, creating a WIki user account, creating a WikiHomePage, and subscribing to the fswiki mailing list. If you're reading this page on the wiki you can skip the first step.
1.1. Accessing FreeSurferWiki
If you're reading this on the wiki you can skip this step. Go to https://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/fswiki. Please note the s in https
A login window will pop up with the title 'Secure FSWiki Area'. Login with you NMR Center username and password. If the window does not accept your login contact email@example.com
1.2. Creating your Wiki Account
Go to UserPreferences. You should see fields to enter your Name, Password, Password repeat, and Email address. (If instead you see an ID # and another user's name, then someone else is currently logged into that browser session and you need to log that user out by clicking on the Logout button at the bottom of the page.)
Enter your WikiUserName and a password, and click on the Create Profile button. For security reasons, your wiki password should be different from your NMR Center password.
1.3. Creating your WikiHomePage
You should now create your WikiHomePage. You can create your WikiHomePage by going to https://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/fswiki/FirstnameLastname where FirstnameLastname is your WikiUserName. For example, if your WikiUserName is JaneSmith you should go to https://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/fswiki/JaneSmith.
Click on HomepageTemplate and then fill out the information. When you're done press the Save Changes button. You can then click on RecentChanges to see that your modification has been added to the Wiki. Congratulations! You've just made your first contribution to the Wiki.
1.4. Subscribing to wiki mailing list
You should also subscribe to the fswiki mailing list by going to http://mail.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/mailman/listinfo/fswiki. The fswiki mailing list provides a forum to discuss the FreeSurferWiki.
1.5. Setting UserPreferences
Go to UserPreferences to set up your preferences. We recommend that you activate the following preferences
- Show emoticons
- Show fancy diffs
- Show fancy links
- Show icon toolbar
- Show page trail
You can also specify which pages you'd like to subscribe to in the window which reads Subscribed wiki pages (one regex per line). When you subscribe to a page you'll automatically receive an email notification when that page is modified. You can subscribe to all pages on the wiki by putting a .* (that is, a period followed by an asterisk) in the subscription window. See HelpOnUserPreferences for more information.
Click on Save to save your user preferences.
